Idly Kadai story revolves around a youngster who flies abroad to realise his dreams much against the wishes of his dad and the rest of the journey in the aftermath. Murali reaches the top echelons in AFC, Bangkok, Thailand as the chief owned by Vishnu Vardhan. He is all set to get engaged to Vishnu Vardhan’s daughter Meera. However, things change quickly and where this leads to and how it is connected to Murali’s village Sivapuram, his parents Sivakesavavulu, Kasturi, Pattabhi, Kalyani, Vishnu Vardhan’s son Ashwin form the interesting part.

Murugan is the son of Sivanesan. Sivanesan, in his village, had set up an Idli shop that is pretty much a symbol of that village. The meager revenue they gained from that shop always made Murugan think about expanding the business, and he even wanted the shop to have franchises in various cities. This ambition made him leave his home to become a bigger chef. What we see in the film is a series of events that forced Murugan to come back, and the things that followed after his return.
